THE SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH
The SHCY was founded in 2001 to promote the history
of children and youth.
The organization (1) supports research about childhood,
youth cultures, and the experience of young people across diverse
times and places; (2) fosters study across disciplinary and methodological
boundaries; (3) provides venues for scholars to communicate with
one another; and (4) promotes excellence in scholarship.
To advance these goals the SHCY publishes a "Newsletter"
twice each year. Each newsletter features two or three articles
written by guest editors. Regular columns from the members of
the newsletter's editorial board include recently published articles
and dissertations, news from members, museum and archive updates,
websites of interest to historians of children and youth, a pedagogy
column, and a column for those interested in the history of girlhood.
