Untitled, 1982, © Jerry N. Uelsmann

Jerry Uelsmann is a contemporary American photographer who pioneered in the use of darkroom manipulation techniques. The resulting images often efface the nature/culture boundary and always force us to rethink more literal ways of seeing the world. Trained in traditional photographic methods (in the style of Ansel Adams), Uelsmann began breaking away from the realistic mode in the 1960s. Since then he has produced hundreds of meticulously crafted photographs that have been collected into a number of books and in most major museums. This image is from one his publications, Process and Perception, Copyright © 1985 by Jerry N. Uelsmann, University of Florida Press, Gainesville, Florida.
